Over Emphasis on IQ
Need for Emotional Intelligence:
With the rise of Cold war, there was mutual suspicion among countries, between different states. There was a general mistrust and isolation which led to a nuclear stockpile by the superior powers. Developing countries followed suit. Terrorism thrived. Intelligently superior people called it strategy in their own right. Hold on...
Aren't we missing some thing here? Aren't we here for living with cooperation?Aren't we here to lead a peaceful life? The overemphasis on IQ has had a strong influence on the attitudes of the masses. But, all along researches were proving that High IQ does not translate necessarily into Successful Career and Outstanding responsible individuals. On the contrary, there were stars and super stars who were shining even if they lacked the fundamental education.
Though IQ was required, there was the strong need for Collaboration and co-operation between people, states and countries. With the more and more globalized economy, the importance of Mutual support and Diplomatic relations became inevitable.
Researches supported that Kids who exhibited emotional empathy in their childhood days, grew into successful leaders and great responsible citizens even though they had average IQs. There was a growing realization among people, organization, societies, states and countries for Emotional intelligence. The age was changing from control to consensus. Everybody's interests must be addressed for a wholesome organic growth. The job is complicated. Efficiency and Empathy were both required to drive projects and achieve the objectives.
Attitude Redefined:
Remembering Andrew McAffee's thoughts on technology used for medication, I was in fact wondering the vast attitude shift that has happened over the period of some 3500 years. What has western thought given to us? While the intentions are appreciable and noble, there is an inevitable shift in attitude.
In the ancient tamil Siddha tradition, Medicine was researched for the purpose of immortality and was achieved by severe penance and devotion. But the current state is so palpable that, Medicine is used for cures and life-sustenance. What a pity? What was used in proactive sense has now become reactive!! Doesn't that show that there has been a huge loss in our attitude towards our life style and quality of living!!
Such has been the same case with over emphasis on IQ, individual achievement and contribution. The focus now has to be redefined to achieve collaborative success where everyone's objectives are achieved in a peaceful and amicable manner. Fundamental attitude change is required. You can't keep aiming for the stars with an arrow designed in your mind. Action coupled with defined directions are required for the the needed change in attitude towards symbiotic growth.
